Tomorrow is Thanksgiving; Remember to Give Thanks

Tomorrow is the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States. So often, we spend more time making out a grocery list than taking a moment to reflect and be thankful for what we have been given, and have earned. Please thank a veteran or an active duty soldier. Please thank a family member for all they do. And please take a moment to remember those who have gone before us in the fight for freedom.

PRACTICE

Only to the extent that you expose yourself over and over again to annihilation, can that which is indestructible arise within you. In this lies the dignity of daring.

Thus, the aim of practice is not to develop an attitude which allows you to acquire a state of harmony and peace wherein nothing can ever trouble you. On the contrary, practice should teach you to let yourself be assaulted, perterbed, moved, insulted, broken and battered -- that is to say, it should enable you to dare to let go of your futile hankering after harmony, relief from pain, and a comfortable life in order that you may discover, in doing battle with the forces that oppose you, that which awaits you beyond the world of opposites.

The first necessity is that you should have the courage to face life, and to encounter all that is most perilous in the world.

Only if you venture repeatedly through zones of annihilation, can your contact with something greater, which is beyond annihilation, become firm and stable.
